Supreme Court cancels admissions of over 550 medical students in Kerala
India Legal Oct 30, 2018
The Supreme Court on October 29 canceled admissions of over 550 medical students belonging to four self-financing medical colleges in Kerala.
The order came after a plea from the Medical Council of India opposing an order from the Kerala High Court that had initially okayed the admissions for students from ASl-Azhar, PK Das, DM, and SR medical colleges. The MCI wanted cancelation of the admissions after the colleges failed to meet the necessary guidelines. Last year, on March 22, the supreme court had canceled the admission of over 180 students in two colleges on account of irregularities in the admission process. The Kerala government then passed an ordinance in April this year to regularise the admission process. The supreme court has since managed to stay the ordinance and has informed that no student will be allowed to attend college or take any classes in these colleges.
