Stem cell therapy for mentally disabled children launched in Kakinada

Stem cell therapy programme for the mentally disabled children was launched at the Uma educational and technical society center at Rayudupalem area, Kakinada on July 1.
A special medical team from the Nuerogen brain and spine institute, Mumbai has screened the number of mentally disabled children and identified those requires special stem cell therapy. SP Reddy, executive director of Uma educational and technical society, while formally inaugurating the programme said that it was very difficult task for anyone to nurture the children that are suffering from mental growth and behavioral disorder.
He called upon the philanthropists to come forward to support the center run by the society in proper nurturing and educating the mentally disabled children. He has complimented the Asha Jyoti disabled care center Hanuman Junction of West Godavari for liaisoning with the Mumbai institute in organising the programme. Appikonda Raju former director, Andhra Pradesh state department for the welfare of disabled and aged who was the guest of honour has stressed the need for community’s support for looking after the welfare of the disabled.
Dr Nandini Gokula Chandran leader of the Neurogen Brain and spine institute medical team said that the stem cell therapy administered to the mentally disabled children was yielding good results and over seventy percent children were able to lead a normal life. She also explained the stem cell treatment through a power point presentation. She said that part of the expenditure on the stem cell therapy was being provided from the AP Chief Minister’s relief fund. Over 120 mentally disabled children along with their parents attended the programme.
