Staff crunch affects medical services in Women & Children's Hospital
The Tribune Oct 29, 2018
Severe shortage of staff in the gynaecology ward of the Women and Children Hospital at Bathinda, Punjab is affecting the medical services offered at the hospital.
According to the Health Department records, the patient inflow has increased manifold in the last couple of years with close to 200 patients visiting the hospital now on a daily basis. The number of deliveries per month has also increased by 50%, but the number of doctors being hired for handling the patients has not increased yet. The present gynaecologists working at the hospital are forced to work beyond their shift timing or sometimes ever 24 hours at a stretch. This compromises the quality of medical services too.
