Special course for doctors can cut deaths from medical errors in half: Experts
Economic Times Oct 29, 2018
Experts have mentioned that having specialised courses for doctors and medical staff to train them in handling critical cases can cut the number of deaths caused from medical negligence in half, the current number being about 50,00,000/year in India.
An Acute Critical Care Course (ACCC) developed in the 1980s in Europe has managed to cut the number of deaths by 10% abroad. The two-day course has become compulsory for surgical trainees in the US and UK now. A Harvard University study last year reported that 50,00,000 deaths in India can be attributed to the lack of practical knowledge among doctors and emergency medical staff to handle critical patients.
