Some dengue patients may not have fever, says new AIIMS study
Times of India Oct 24, 2018
Doctors from AIIMS have published a case study after observing that a few of their patients who test positive for dengue do not present with fever.
Doctors mentioned a particular case in their study- that of a 50-year old orderly working at AIIMS who did not have fever but tested positive for the disease. The patient complained of fatigue because of which doctors ordered a blood test. The test revealed very low counts of white blood cells and platelets and high level of acid in the blood. The low cell count prompted doctors to then test for dengue. In the study report, doctors mentioned that in endemic areas, it is important to treat dengue as a differential diagnosis in patients displaying leucopenia and thrombocytopenia. The study has been published in the Journal of The Association of Physicians of India.
