Regular blood sample collection made mandatory for Jhumias in Tripura

With a report of Malaria spread in hilly interiors, the district administration of Dhalai asked health officials to start a regular collection of blood for each and every shifting cultivator (Jhumia) before they go to the field and after come back to trace malaria and other vector-borne diseases.



District Magistrate Dhalai Dr Brahmneet Kaur in a notification said that regular collection of blood samples of the Jhumias before going to jhum field and after their return in the common market place the health workers to record the blood report on a daily basis and create a database for further course of action. To aware the people, district malaria officer was asked to make a video on the spread of malaria during the rainy season. It was also observed that mosquito larva has to get favourable condition during monsoon, as most of the rubber estate has put small latex collection pot but in rainy season water is accumulated their and mosquito breeds there.


The Jhum cultivators are the regular visitor of forest and it was found that most of the time they became the primary victim of the disease. Dr Kaur had held a meeting with all medical administrators, BDOs, SDMs and other stakeholders of the district and asked them to use social media for effective sharing of information in the administration.
