Rainbow Children Hospital conducts cycle rally to create awareness on breast feeding

As part of World Breast Feeding Week, a Gynaecology wing of Rainbow Children Hospital on August 5 conducted a cycle rally to create awareness on the benefits of breast feeding.
The rally was flagged off by Rainhow Children’s Hospital Director Dr Dinesh Kumar Chirla at Gachibowli Stadium on August 5 morning. Cycling enthusiasts, staff members of Rainbow Children’s Hospital including their family members have participated in rally which divided into two groups—10 km and 5 km.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Dinesh advised mother’s to start feeding their babies immediately after the birth as the first milk that comes out with one of hour of delivery known as colostrums contains rich in protein and antibodies that will help give a baby great start. Expressing dismay over recent figures that explain the pathetic condition in giving breast feeding, he said that in Telangana it was found that only 35 percent of mothers are giving their first milk. He opined that awareness must be created so that this percentage can be improved in the state.
He also advised the mothers to set aside several misconceptions that exist in their mind over breast feeding. Stating that one such misconception is milk came in first hour is quite thick and in yellowish colour is not good for baby, he advised mothers to remove such misconceptions. He advised mothers to continue the feeding as long as they are allowed to do.
Further adding to it, he explained that breast feeding would reduce the chance of getting cancer and also allow a pregnant women’s body to restore normalcy after delivery. He also said that breast milk would improve IQ of baby and also develops immune system that can fight with allergies and other diseases.
