PG Medical Admission: Puducherry governor should conduct inquiry into mop up counselling

UNI May 19, 2018

The AIADMK Legislature Party leader in Puducherry on May 18 urged Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi to order an inquiry into the mop-up counselling for PG Medical Admission.

The Counselling is held in a hurry which deprived the rights of the students. Talking to news persons, Mr Anbazhagan said such things should not happen in future and the government should take steps to ensure that the local students were admitted. Mr Anbazhagan charged the government and the Health Secretary for cheating the students by not planning properly the admissions into the three private medical colleges affiliated to the Pondicherry university.

The students were deprived of their right to get admission in the 84 PG medical seats in the three private medical colleges here. He said a government order stated that the counselling would be conducted in two phases and the seats not filled up will be filled with Puducherry students. The Manakkula Vinayagar medical college was exempted in the government order. The other two colleges moved the court and obtained a stay.

Mr Anbazhagan said when the case was pending before the High Court, the Health Secretary has ordered the filling up of posts on all India Merit basis and on a request from the AIADMK, the Lt.Governor has stopped the counselling. However, the Health Secretary gave a wrong information to the Lt.Governor and obtained permission for conducting the counselling. With the case to come up on May 26 in the Madras High Court, the counselling could have been conducted after that, Mr Anbazhagan said, adding that the Health Secretary has functioned in support of the Private Medical Colleges and ‘cheated’ students here.

The Maximum students from other states joined the PG seats here, the AIADMK leader said and added that the Health Secretary secretary has worked as a ‘broker’ for admitting other state students and the government was also in support of the same.
This is a pre-planned drama, he said and charged Chief Minister V Narayanasamy who has also “cheated” the local students by not taking any steps to ensure their admissions.
