People's doctor, who charged just Rs 20 from patients, passes away in Chennai

Veteran doctor Dr. Jagan Mohan, who used to charge a mere Rs 20 from the patients and became popular among the people of his locality, died here last night after a brief illness.
Dr. Jagan Mohan was 77. His last rites were held on October 4, in which several people from the locality paid their last respects. The affectionate doctor had been treating patients for more than five decades and he continued till his death. Dr. Jagan Mohan found a place among the hearts of the people, especially among the residents of Mandaveli and Mylapore areas in the city.
The compassionate doctor, who had earlier charged just Re one as fees and used to give free medicines to his patients, charged just Rs 20 from his patients who came to his clinic at RK Mutt Road till his death. Charging such a meager amount, that too at a time when the prices of petrol and other utilities have been sky-rocketing was overwhelming.
As soon as the poor man's doctor unfortunate death was announced, the WhatsApp was flooded with emotional messages about his heartwarming services to many. He was also known to offer even free service to patients who were extremely poor. The doctor, who has completed his medical degree at Government Stanley Medical College, hailed from Madurai.
