The Daily Pioneer Oct 31, 2018
The Ganjam Zilla Bikash Manch on October 29 alleged medical negligence as the cause of death of a 61-year old man who was undergoing treatment at AIIMS, Bhubaneshwar.
The Manch has demanded that an investigation be carried out to probe the death of the patient. The man was due to undergo a nipple bone operation at AIIMS. Doctors had apparently even deemed him fit for surgery. He underwent the operation on August 29, but continued experiencing pain. Further tests revealed a fracture due to faults in the surgery. Another surgery was conducted to correct this, but doctors later diagnosed him with meningitis. The patient was admitted to the ICU, where he later had a heart attack. The Manch members have mentioned that despite having all facilities available at the hospital, the patient suffered a heart attack, and when no proper treatment was given, the patient's family moved him to a private hospital where he died. They blame gross negligence in the treatment offered at AIIMS and have sought an investigation.
