A resident doctor was allegedly assaulted on may 31 by relatives of a 43-year old woman patient claiming that she died due to improper treatment at the state-run Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here, police said.
The woman, suffering from lung problems, was admitted to the NIMS on May 19 and died last night after her condition deteriorated.
After her death, some of her relatives got emotional and alleged that the doctors had not treated her properly. Some of them suddenly "attacked" Dr Irfan, who ran outside for safety, Punjagutta Police Station Inspector S Ravindar said. Condemning the "attack" on their colleague, a group of doctors held a demonstration in the hospital premises seeking action against those inovlved in the incident.
Following a complaint by the doctors, a case was registered against five persons under IPC sections 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 448 (trespass), the police official said. In a counter complaint, the family members alleged that the security guards at the hospital assaulted some of them. Based on it, a case under IPC sections 342 (wrongful confinement) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) was registered, police said.
