Over 160 patients attend ENT camp at Kangra

More than 160 people attended a two-day free ENT camp at Gopal Bagh in the outskirts of this district which ended on April 21.
Organised by Vivekananda Kendra Kanayakumari Branch Kangra town, 48 audiometric tests were conducted free of cost and six super specialised surgeries conducted on the first day of the camp on April 20. Dr Sanjay Sachdeva, Director ENT, Head and Neck surgery Max Group of Hospitals, who conducted the super specialised surgeries in Dr Neena Pawa Nursing home free of cost yesterday and attended OPD today at Gopal Bagh where half a dozen patients were identified for Cochlear implant and remaining 156 patients were given treatment and hearing aids.
Dr Sachdeva said that the children born with congenital hearing loss face difficulties in communication and in learning speech with the result they have gross lack of communication skills and such children could be helped by implanting surgically cochlear implant.
He said that Cochlear implant was making children to form the productive part of the society as they behave like normal children. More than a dozen mute children were operated upon for free Cochlear implants in these Vivekananda Kendra ENT camps with successful results earlier.
PR Agnihotri Convenor Vivekanandra Kendra Kangra Branch told UNI that Cochlear implant costing Rs. 5.38 lacs was being provided free to the patient besides the surgery costing Rs 1.10 lakh was also being performed free of cost. He said that in view of the increasing hearing impairments in the state particularly among women and children Kendra had been holding such camps here every month.
He said that Dr Sachdeva treated patients in this camp, who besides from Kangra district, arrived here from Hamirpur, Una, Mandi , Chamba, Bilaspur, Solan and from Pathankot in Punjab.
