Organs of brain dead patient save four lives

The organs donated by a brain dead patient has saved four lives at the Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC) at suburban Porur.
A SRMC release here today said R Jayaprakash a 33-year-old Assembling Technician from a private fabricating firm, suffered a severe head injury at his work place and was admitted to SRMC on Sunday alast. It was diagnosed as sub arachnoids hemorrhage. Despite treatment he could not recover and was declared brain dead on August 15. Ms S Bhavani, an M.Sc. Biochemistry final year student, who married Jayaprakash only three months back, despite the tragedy and grief along with other family members, came forward to donate his vital organs.
The liver was transplanted on a 54-year-old businessman from Kolkata by Dr Mohamed Rela and his team and one kidney was transplanted on a 55-year-old man from Neyveli by Dr S. Venkataramanan and team on the same day. The other kidney and heart were shared with another hospital. The corneas were retained with SRMC for future use.
