UNI Dec 22, 2018
Two exemplary cases of organ donations saved the life of a 52-year-old man and 27-year-old woman hailing from Mumbai and Pune, after they underwent successful organ transplant surgeries on consecutive days at the Fortis Hospital in Thane, Maharashtra.
The Mumbai-based patient suffering from a chronic heart ailment was operated on December 18 whereas the Pune native went under scissors on December 19, hospital statements said. The male patient from Mumbai was suffering from a chronic heart ailment and had his name on the wait list for a heart transplant since the month of December under the 'supra urgent' category.
Similarly, the young woman diagnosed with a serious heart and lung disease also had her name on the organ transplant wait list. The lives of both the patients were saved by the organs of two brain dead persons, whose families hailing from Vishakhapatnam and Indore gave their consent for donating the organs of their loved ones.
The Vishakhapatnam-based heart donor is a 17-year-old boy who was pronounced brain dead after he met a road accident. The Indore-based heart and lung donor is a 36-year-old woman who was pronounced brain dead after she suffered brain hemorrhage.
Knowing the medical cases of the Fortis hospital patients',the Medical Social Workers(MSW) briefed the aggrieved families of the donors about the noble cause of organ donation. The MSW's convinced both the families for donating the organs of their loved ones' to the patients under treatment at the Fortis Hospital in Mumbai.
After receiving the consent of both the families, special arrangements were made for transporting the harvested organs from Vishakhapatnam and Indore to Mumbai. Speaking about the transplants, Fortis Hospital Zonal Director Dr S Narayani said, "Each donation is a progressive step towards building a healthier nation. This is made possible by the donor families, who make the brave decision in time of immense grief. We hope that these golden examples of selfless contribution to humanity motivate more such families to join us in saving and enriching lives."
