One lakh people dying due to tobacco consumption in Bihar every year

At least 1.05 lakh people die due to tobacco consumption in various forms in Bihar every year and around 288 people die in the state due to tobacco consumption every day, Patron of Voice of Tobacco Victims Dr V P Singh said, a day before World No Tobacco Day.
He said at least 2739 people, addicted to tobacco consumption die in the country every year. Mr Singh said tobacco addicts were dying mainly due to cancer and heart related diseases. He said that tobacco addicts were becoming victims of various coronary related diseases. Even smokeless consumption of tobacco is equally harmful, Mr Singh added. He quoted GATES 2 survey 2016-17 as saying that at least 25.9 lakh people were consuming in one form or another. Mr Singh said the number of people addicted to smokeless consumption of tobacco was more than those addicted to smoking tobacco.
