NMC bill keeps bridge course, changes name

The New Indian Express Jul 24, 2019

The National Medical Commission Bill was tabled in the Lok Sabha on July 23 and it has retained the provision allowing practitioners of alternative medicine to practice modern medicine with the help of a two-year bridge course.

The bill has not retained the word the AYUSH but still retained the clause to enable such practitioners to function as primary health care providers to patients.  The provision has created a general feeling of disappointment among allopathic doctors and the Indian Medical Association. A former IMA president mentioned that this is a dangerous suggestion and it will be met with opposition from the doctor community just like last time.
