New researches can make medicines more effective: ICSB
UNI Jun 25, 2018
Many scientists presented their papers about their work on making medicines more effective with new innovations, in a seminar organised by Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists (ISCB) in Lucknow on June 23.
Professor Rakesh Shukla, Former Chief Scientists and Head, Division of Pharmacology, Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow underlined the threat of risk of dementia due to uncontrolled blood pressure. He said that imbalance in blood pressure causing over 1 million deaths across the world. The situation is more alarming as till the year 2025, 1.56 million people will be facing problems of hypertension and 70 millions will have dementia.
Pro Shukla said that consistent hypertension can affect on heart, kidney, nervous system and other important parts. Young people of age group 25 to 35 facing these problems of imbalanced blood pressure due to bad life style, excess of fast food consumption, smoking and alcoholic habit, he pointed out. In recent researches it reflected that low doses of blood pressure maintaining drugs can prevent risk of dementia, he said adding that initially experiments were conducted on rats and further clinical trials on humans were underway.
Professor Ashok K Prasad, department of chemistry, University of Delhi, said that we got success in converting glucose into polymer which is very easily soluble in water. It can be used in preparing medicines which don’t dissolve in blood perfectly. With the help of this polymer solubility of the medicines can be improved which will bring better results in patients health.
Drug encapsulation the method used to form such medicines can be proved boon for cancer patients ads the medicines for these patients shows many side effects. The encapsulation of these drugs increases efficiency of the drugs and minimise the side effects of these drugs. He said that industrial production of this innovation yet to be promoted.
Speaking about his researches, Pro Diwan Singh Rawat, department of chemistry, University of Delhi said that normally patients are advised to have multiple medicines simultaneously. In this case drugs effect differently as it should be. We have developed technique to make two or more drugs as one molecule which effects effectively in body as both salts released simultaneously. These combined drugs are 75 percent more effective than usual drugs, he stressed.
“We have successfully proved effectiveness of these drugs in malaria disease now we are working on Parkinson, a neurodegenerative disorder, and the initial results were very encouraging” Pro Rawat said. While Dr Sinha underlined the synthesis of molecule which is natural inspired. For many uses humans chemically worked on synthesis of molecule which caused damage to the environment. In our research we found that by natural methods we can get these molecules synthesised with natural process which will save our environment.
