New drug cures DR-TB in 9 out of 10 patients in trial
Times of India Oct 25, 2018
Doctors in Belarus have tested a new treatment therapy for drug-resistant tuberculosis where they could cure 90% of patients in the trial.
The drug bedaquiline is believed to be a real game-changer in the global battle against the disease. When used with other antibiotics, the drug cured 168 of the total 181 patients enrolled in the trial. The success rate allowed other countries in Europe, Africa, and South-East Asia to carry out similar trials, the results of which will be announced at a major tuberculosis conference later this week.
