National workshop on 'Diagnostic methods in Clinical Microbiology' at Jipmer from August 28

The Department of Microbiology, Jipmer will conduct a four-day 15th National Workshop on “Diagnostic methods in Clinical Microbiology” from August 28.
A Jipmer release said, the workshop attendees will be a mixed group of residents and faculty. About 24 participants will be coming from various medical colleges in the country with the purpose of being provided an intensive training during the four days on the basic methods and advanced technologies in diagnostic Microbiology including automated diagnostic systems which is available in only a few institutes in India.
This workshop will also have external faculty demonstrating rapid detection of antibiotic resistance markers directly from blood specimens. Resource persons for the workshop will be a team of both internal and external faculty who will share the dais for the various laboratory exercises and presentations. Latest technologies will also be showcased during the workshop.
To name a few, GeneXpert, MALDI-TOF, VITEK, VIRTUO will be demonstrated for microbial pathogens along with PARASIGHT platform for malaria diagnosis. This intensive four days workshop will enable participants to learn various techniques so as to establish these procedures in their own departments.
