Nagaland observes World Blood Donor Day

With the rest of the globe, Nagaland on June 14 observed the World Blood Donor Day throughout the state with a daylong programme.
The main function was held by Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) and Red Ribbon Club, Baptist College Kohima in collaboration with Naga Hospital Authority of Kohima at Baptist College in Kohima under the theme "Be there for someone else" with the slogan "Give blood, Share Life."
While delivering the exhortation, Dr. Nangshimeren, Project Director, NSACS said that World Blood Donor Day is a day to make self-aware and share the message of blood donation and safe blood and a day like this is a platform is very important to express our gratitude to the people, who have donated blood.
With India having a shortfall of around 25 Lakh Unit of blood per year, Dr. Nangshimeren said that the demand for safe blood is in an increasing rate and added that our country does not have a adequate supply of safe blood. He urged and encouraged the people to self voluntarily donate blood and remind oneself the importance of blood donation and encourage others.
Dr. Seyiechutuo Solo, in charge of the Blood Bank of NHAK gave a brief power point presentation on the importance of Blood Donation.
He said there is no substitute for human blood. It cannot be manufactured. Blood cannot be stored for long. There is constant need for blood donation to meet the demand of blood and its components. He urged the students present to come forward and donate blood to save the life of someone. As a part of observing the day students and other volunteers donated blood after the programme.
