Mumbai Hospital fire: Toll touches 11

UNI Dec 22, 2018

With a week-old-baby girl succumbing to her burn injuries on December 21, the death toll in Monday's fire incident at the government-run Employees State Insurance Corporation(ESIC) Kamgar Hospital located at Marol mounted to 11.

The baby, a patient at the Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai, was being treated for the complications resulting from smoke inhalation during the fire accident. As of now, around 91 survivors, including eight critically-ill patients, are under medical supervision in different hospitals across the city, informed a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) official.

The government has announced Rs 10 lakh each as compensation to the families of the deceased. The fire started at the fourth floor of the hospital and later spread to the other floors of the building.
