MR vaccine to launch on Aug 17

The Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine will be launched in Telangana on August 18 after the state is targeted in the second phase of MR Vaccination campaign.
Union Ministry of Health and and Family Welfare (MoHFW) had launched a MR vaccination campaign across the country on February 6 last, an official statement said here today.Measles is a highly infectious disease and of the major causes of death or disability in children.It can make a child vulnerable to life threatening complications such as pneumonia, diarrhea and brain infection.Rubella affects both children and susceptible pregnant mothers.If a woman gets rubella infection in early pregnancy it can have severe and even fatal consequences for the fetus and newborns.
The State Government in partnership with UNICEF is organizing a sensitization programme on “Measles-Rubella (MR) Campaign” for media on August 11.
This programme highlights the critical issues concerning vaccination and child survival with particular reference to the MR Campaign.
Telangana Minister for Health, Dr Laxma Reddy, Education Minister Dr Kadiyam Srihari and key representatives from the State Government, UNICEF, WHO, and other experts will participate in this media sensitization programme.
