UNI Mar 23, 2018
CBI has arrested the chairman of a private medical college in Bhopal in connection to the MPPEB scam, where the medical college provided wrong information to the DME about admission of a student and the number of vacant seats available for round two of counselling.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested the chairman of a Bhopal-based private medical college, JN Chouksey, in a case related to the state's Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam pertaining to Pre-Medical Test-2012. The MPPEB is commonly known by its Hindi acronym Vyapam. A supplementary chargesheet was filed by the CBI on November 23, 2017, in the Additional Sessions Judge and Special Judge (Vyapam Scam, Bhopal), a CBI release said on 22 March.
After taking the cognisance, the trial court issued non-nailable arrest warrants against absconding and charge-sheeted persons. In pursuance to these arrest warrants, the CBI arrested Chouksey from his residence here. He was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody up to March 24. It was alleged in the charge-sheet that the medical college dishonestly provided wrong information to the Director of Medical Education (DME), Bhopal, regarding the admission of a co-accused candidate, who was already a student of MBBS-2011 Batch in Patna.
Besides, the medical college informed the DME that only five vacant seats for second round of counselling although more than 40 seats were vacant. It was further alleged that the college took more than 40 admissions on September 30, 2012 when the process of counselling was already over. The college, in connivance with DME officials, forwarded the list of admitted students to DME, which was different from the allotment list of DME. The CBI took over the investigation into MPPEB inconsistencies – being probed by the Special Task Force earlier – on the Supreme Court directives issued on July 9, 2015.
