Monkey Fever: Control room opened in Kalpetta

Aimed at monitoring and coordinating on the preventive measures being taken to contain spreading of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) also known as Monkey Fever, the district administration on January 25 opened a control room in the Collectorate building in Kalpetta, Wayanad.
Two cases of KFD cases have been reported from Thirunelly forest belt and inflicted tribals are under medical observation. A meeting of the district officials convened to review KFD and chaired by the District Collector A Rajayakumar, has decided to conduct a fever survey in the fever-hit and probable areas in Thirunelly, Nellipuzha and Mullankolly Panchayats.
The meeting urged all who make it to the forest to take preventive vaccination. Awareness campaigns will also be held in these areas to alert people to be cautious. Anyone having fever should report to the nearby health centre, the meeting urged the people. Any instaces of death of monkeys has to be immediately reported, the meeting observed.
