Minister flags off Dengue awareness campaign vehicles

The Health Minister on 26th June flagged off the Dengue awareness campaign vehicles in Puducherry.
Three vehicles fitted with mikes will undertake campaign for ten days in Puducherry while, one for seven days in Karaikal, and one each in Mahe and Yanam regions for five days. He also flagged off the new Ambulance service of the Bahour Primary Health Centre. Later talking to news persons, he said that the Dengue cases are considerably decreasing in Puducherry. It came to 25 now from 291 last year.
No deaths of dengue fever were reported in Puducherry so far, he said, adding that if the public support is there, Dengue could be eradicated from Puducherry. He said the government would set up four rural indoor-stadiums in Puducherry under Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) scheme from Airport Authority of India . Funds for same was received and two indoor-stadiums would be in Puducherry and one each in Karikal and Yanam, he added.
The Minister said the government had allocated 50 acres of land of the required 80 acres to set up the organ transplant hospital by Jipmer at Saidarapet in Puducherry. An amount of Rs.518 crore was provided by the Centre, he said and added that he will be meeting the Jipmer Director Rakesh Aggarwal to discuss things in this connection and also for appointment of a consultant to prepare a project report.
The total cost of the hospital is Rs 1400 crore, he said. Other prevailing local issues would also be discussed with Dr.Aggarwal in 26th June's meeting, he said. Construction of a super-specialty hospital in Karaikal would commence next month,he added.
