A 20-year-old medical college student committed suicide allegedly due to peer pressure at Madras Medical College (MMC) hostel premises here last night.

Police said the victim, Arun Selvam, was staying in the college’s men’s hostel and was pursuing second year MBBS. A native of Vandavasi, he was found hanging from the ceiling of the fan in his room when his roommates returned after having dinner. A group of students broke the door from outside and attempted to rescue him by administering first-aid. But he was pronounced when he was taken to the hospital. Investigations revealed that he was under depression for the last couple of days
