Measles Rubella Vaccination for school students: SSMO of WHO

Dr Anjan Chattaraj, State Surveillance Medical Officer (SSMO) of WHO has informed that the major target would be to immunize the children who are studying in the schools for Measles Rubella Vaccination.


Dr. Chattaraj said, “It is my appealed to all schools to arrange Measles Rubella Vaccination camp for all children in festive mode. First two weeks, the campaign will be going on in schools and health institutions only. This is not the new vaccine. But Government has inducted MR Vaccine in Universal Immunization Programme from last year”.

Dr. Niru Mohan Jamatia, Chief Medical Officer, Gomati District said MR Vaccine is safe and effective. Already 9.2 crore children have  been vaccinated in other parts of the country. T. K Debnath, District Magistrate & Collector has asked the official of Health, Education and Social Welfare & Social Education to play proactive role to vaccinate each children.

He directed all private schools all over the District to participate in the campaign to vaccinate every child. DM has also assured to  extend all kinds of cooperation & support from the District Administration to achieve 100 percent target. The government had also launched various major and national programme in the previous years and the people had responded positively, added DM & Collector.

Dr. Kallol Kumar Roy, District Immunisation Officer has elaborated the programme strategies and implication of measles and rubella diseases infected children and pregnant women. India has cosignatory to eliminate two diseases by 2020. He informed that block level training, planning programme will be held in all Health Institutions.

Emphasising on importance of proper micro-planning and involvement of community leaders, mothers and parents, he said, village  health sanitation committees will act proactively. Proper planning at grass root level is the key to success of such mass campaign.
Vaccination is the only effective way to tackle the two diseases, he added. The Preparation of MR vaccination has been started with inauguration of District level technical programme to plan and implementation of the upcoming mass vaccination campaign.

The Programme held today meant to train technical aspects to Sub Divisional, CHC & PHC level medical officers, HMIS workers and health workers. The programme is inaugurated by T. K. Debnath, District Magistrate & Collector of Gomati District which held at Panchayat Raj Training Institute at Udaipur. M.R Vaccination campaign is going to be launched to immune the wide range of
population by vaccinating the children who have completed 9 months to children who just to appear 15 years of ages. Medical Superintendent of Gomati District Hospital, Paediatrics District Education Officer, District Inspector of Schools, CDPO, were also present in the programme.
