UNI Jul 02, 2018
KIMS Hospitals CEO and Managing Director Dr Bhaskar Rao on July 1 stressed the need for more Rheumatology teaching centers in the country.
Addressing the fifth edition of Rheumatology workshop here, Dr Rao lamented that there are only 15 teaching hospitals where Rheumatology post-graduate services are available in the country. In Telangana only NIMS and KIMS have Rheumatology PG course, whereas in Andhra Pradesh none of the teaching hospitals have PG course in Rheumatology, he said. The Workshop is being organised jointly by Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, KIMS Hospitals in association with Rheumatology Association Hyderabad Chapter, with an aim to raising medical and public awareness on Rheumatology, he added.
KIMs Foundation and Research Centre Chairman and former NIMS Director Padmashri Prof. Dr. Kakarla Subbarao said the number of Rheumatologists practicing in India is too less and strikingly inadequate to meet the health and medical care requirements of the community.
Dr.Sarath Chandra Mouli, Clinical Director, Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology KIMS Hospitals, said, “Arthritis patients can lead normal life with new therapies available in the market. There are some new class of drugs called biologics like Remicade, Enbrel, Tocilizumab, Rituximab and small molecules like Tofacitinib and Baricitinib changed the therapeutic landscape of arthritic conditions and dramatically replaced disease outcomes positively.” More than 300 delegates including General practitioners, Physicians, Orthopedics, Medical officers and Post-graduates from various medical colleges from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have attended the workshop.
