The Kerala Chief Minister has sought a probe into the alleged removal of internal organs of an accident victim to adjust his medical bill, in a private hospital at Salem, Tamil Nadu.
In a letter to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, the Kerala CM requested him to order an inquiry into it and ensure proper treatment is given to three other people admitted in the hospital following a road accident. A group of people hailing from Meenakshipuram in Palakkad met with an accident in Tamil Nadu when they were returning after performing Shinkari Melam at Chennai Melvathur. The accident occurred when the car in which they were travelling hit a road divider at Kallikurushi and overturned.
All the injured were admitted to the private hospital in Salem. It was alleged that the hospital management persuaded the relatives of a 25-year old brain-dead patient to donate his organs as they didn’t have enough money to pay the treatment bill. The accident happened on May 18 night. After three days of treatment, the hospital charged Rs. 3 lakhs as medical bill. The hospital also insisted for full payment for releasing the dead body. Later, the hospital authorities allegedly removed the organs for adjusting the bill and released the body to the victim's family.
