JIPMER, Puducherry has signed an MoU with a District Hospital in Mizoram to launch the first telemedicine centre as an initiative for sharing health education, medical education, and patient care and consultations.

Jawharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) launched a Telemedicine Facility for Mizoram on 20 March. According to a JIPMER statement, Dr Subhash Chandra Parija, Director, JIPMER launched the facility along with Deputy Commissioner of Lawngtlai District of Mizoram Dr Arun T, IAS and Prof Dr Ravi Kumar Chittoria Nodal Officer Telemedicine & IT Wing JIPMER. A MoU was signed between JIPMER Puducherry and District Hospital, Lawngtlai, Mizoram. This is the first Telemedicine Centre in Mizoram for sharing Health Education, Medical Education and Patient Care consultations.

JIPMER has been in the forefront in implementing Govt. of India’s ‘Digital India’ policy of Prime Minister Narendera Modi.
JIPMER being an institute of National Importance and Regional Resource Centre (RRC) for Telemedicine for South India,this facility connects South India with Northeast State of India. Dr Parija thanked Director Dr Shukla, NIC Puducherry for providing NKN connectivity for Telemedicine activities. On this occasion Deputy Commissioner Dr Arun T, IAS thanked Director JIPMER for providing technical support to Lawngtlai District Hospital of Mizoram.

He highlighted that various diseases like AIDS, Cancer, Drug abuse etc are prevalent in this remote region of country. In near future the patients of Mizoram will be given expert opinion from specialists of Jipmer through online consultations. With this facility JIPMER has further extended its Telemedicine applications to remote North East Regions of country. During this program online District Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Lawngtlai Dr Lalmalsawmi Hmar and Election Officer Shri Lalrinawma participated remotely. They delivered their speech and highlighted the value of this Telemedicine Facility for their region and thanked JIPMER for agreeing in providing Tele-Consultations.
