Japanese Encephalitis claims four lives in Assam

At least four persons have died and 22 are undergoing treatment for Japanese Encephalitis in Assam's Jorhat district, a senior Health department official said on August 3.
Joint Director of Health Services, Jorhat, Dr Amrit Saikia said 22 people affected by Japanese Encephalitis are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. The malaria department officials have distributed medicated mosquito nets, spraying DDT and bleaching powder in pig farms and water-logged areas, he said. The teams are also providing medicines in the affected areas under Baghchung, Kuwari Pukhuri, Sadar Ali, Timtimia gaon, Maju gaon, Dhekiajuli, Jalukonibari, Thengal, Mariani, he said. Meanwhile, a committee has been formed for checking the various type of diseases and for identification of other water-borne diseases, he added.
