Jamia Hamdard holds int'l conf on innovative health fin mechanism

New Delhi-based Jamia Hamdard university, which is completing 30 years of its existence this year, is holding a two-day International Conference on "Innovative Health Financing Mechanisms: Making Healthcare Affordable in India" here on Friday and Saturday.
The two-day conference will be inaugurated by Prof K Srinath Reddy, President, PHFI, Dr Ravindranath, CMD Global Hospital, Mr Shivinder M Singh, Fortis Healthcare and Dr VP Joy, IAS, PF Commissioner, Govt of India. It will be presided over by Prof Seyed Ehtesham Hasnain, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard university. According to a press release issued here, the will be followed by one day Health Insurance conclave on Sunday. "Quality and affordable healthcare services have become an important aspect in the developmental agenda of our nation as endorsed by the Government of India for an inclusive growth of our society," the press release added.
Indian households contribute about 70 per cent of the total healthcare costs through out of pocket expenditure at the time of illness. It creates financial barriers to access healthcare services and many of those who were forced to access services suffer financial catastrophe and impoverishment. Keeping this predicament at utmost priority, the Department of Health and Hospital Management, School of Management and Business Studies is organising the conference. The Department has been taking the initiative to bring out important aspect of healthcare delivery issues since its inception in 2005. The department also offers some of the best masters programs in healthcare in this part of India. These programs are MBA in Health and Hospital Management, MBA in Pharmaceutical Management and MBA in Insurance Management.
The conference is bringing together leading healthcare providers, planners, policy makers, researchers and scholars in the domain of interest from different countries. During the two days of the conference, multiple issues relating to providing affordable and quality healthcare to Indian masses will be discussed by the experts drawn from public and private healthcare sector. Experts from Sheffield Hallam University UK, University of York, UK, World Health Organisation, USAID, World Bank and Sr executives from big corporate hospitals will participate in the two daylong conference. The outcome of the conference will identify challenges of affordable healthcare delivery system.
The new health policy could be achieved by synchronising the policy with effective and efficient execution on the ground. In this conference, topics like public private partnership in healthcare, health technology assessment, health financing and insurance etc, will be discussed in detail. We also intend to compile and publish the proceedings of the conference for its wider and practical utility. The objective of this conference is to share the knowledge and best practices in bringing together different stakeholders and engaging in discussion on sustainable health financing models. The discussion will aim towards understanding prevalent practices among different countries and their implications in Indian context along with finding innovative solutions to meet upcoming challenges.
