Indian-American doctor to get 4 years in prison on account of drug fraud

Dr. Bharat Patel, an Indian-American physician from Connecticut is one of two doctors charged in a drug fraud case that had him writing many prescriptions of oxycodone and hydrocodone in exchange for hefty reimbursements from the government.
The 71-year old doctor is the founder of Immediate Health Care, based out of Norwalk, Connecticut . He has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for committing health care fraud by unnecessarily prescribing opioids to patients who did not need them, many of whom sold these drugs illegally further defrauding the system. Dr. Ramil Mansourov, 49, who bought the clinic from the doctor and later employed him there also pleaded guilty to drug fraud.
