A lady doctor has been held in illegal abortion cases at Ganeshnagar, Sangli on September 18.

District Collector Vijay Kalam-Patil on September 18 suspended a couple from government service and cancelled their private hospital's license of Chaugule maternity and surgical hospital at Ganeshnagar of the city in illegal abortion cases.

As may as nine illegal abortion cases were reported during the last one year. Suspected accused are Dr Rupali Chaugule and her husband Dr Vijaykumar Chaugule. Giving details, police said getting complaints about illegal abortion, we raided the hospital and arrested the accused, Dr Rupali Chaugule last night, but as she complained uneasiness, she was hopitalised in a private hospital, police said.

While, her husband was not arrested so far, police said. The said hospital was running without proper license under maternity MTP act. Mr Kalam-Patil took a high-level meeting of government officers, including Abhijit Raut, CEO ZP, Ravindra Khebudkar, Commissioner, Shashikant Borate, district superintendent of police and others and suspended both of them, he said added that a proposal has been sent to medical council to cancel their medical charter with immediately effect, he added.
