Human Papilloma Virus Vaccination programme kickstarts

Sikkim Health Care Services under Minister AK Ghatani, has started Vaccination programme in all the Schools across the State. Human Papilloma Virus vaccine is being administered to girls from the ages of 9 to 14, for preventing Cervical Cancer.


Government has introduced it only for girls , as Cervical,Vaginal Cancers are very common. As per Govt policy decision the vaccine has been introduced in Routine Immunization (RI) schedule.In Gangtok,Govt & Pvt Schools have been enlisted for vaccination programme,including Deorali Girls School. To begin with most of the Girls in Deorali School wondered what type of disease it was supposed to prevent? The deep intra muscular 0.5 dosage is given to girls before reaching puberty.

In Namchi the headquarter of South District,girls within the target group assembled in Namchi Govt girls Senior Secondary School for HPV vaccine being provided by the Govt free of cost to girls 9-14 all over Sikkim.South District Health Society organised the  vaccination. The programme was inaugurated by Bandana Rai Councillor Namchi Municipal Corporation.South District Health Society will be vaccinating 6048 girls,each with two prescribed dozes.
