Health department reacts to protest against district hospital

Sikkim state health department has reacted to protest by members of Progressive Youth Forum (PYF), Geyzing demanding better facilities in the district hospital.
The protest march was joined by a section of public marching up to Hospital.It was alleged that government did not follow guidelines issued by Union Health Ministry. The PYF members, mostly youths, said they had apprised the authorities about the need to improve and were given a positive assurance. But since nothing reportedly happened in the last six months, the the time limit decided earlier, they came out on streets.
On the other hand authorities have said that PYF have not mentioned any specific area.But any suggestion from them in future will also be welcomed.State Health Department has clarified that the facilities in the hospital have been improving since last few years along with all other three district hospitals.
According to the health department the hospital has 13 specialists, four medical officers, five dental surgeons and one AYUSH medical officer, and has 30 nursing staff.The hospital is well equipped and the government has always been taking steps to improve health services in all the health facilities of Sikkim, the officials have said. Here, it is to be mentioned that West district has a population of 1.36 lakhs (2011 census).
