HC seeks Centre, Delhi response over doctors safety

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Central and Delhi governments to inform it about the steps taken to provide safety to doctors.

 

 

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Anu Malhotra's order came when they took suo motu cognisance of the issue after reading a news report that resident doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have decided to take self-defence classes.

 

The court, expressing concern over the report that nearly one in every two doctors in state-run hospitals faced violence, has listed the matter for May 19 for further hearing.The report further stated that doctors will take self-defence classes from black belt champions in martial arts, including taekwondo, from May 15.
