PTI Feb 21, 2018

Two ASHA workers were nabbed for conducting an illegal sex determination test of fetuses, state health department officials said today.

An ultrasound and cash of Rs 20,000 were seized from their possession. According to civil surgeon, Ambala, Vinod Gupta, the health department took the action after receiving an information that a gang was active in Patiala area and was conducting illegal sex determination of pregnant women in Ambala. To investigate the matter, a civil surgeon constituted a team of three doctors led by B B Lala. A pregnant woman decoy customer was arranged who contacted an accredited social health activist (ASHA) of Ghanor village.

She asked the ASHA workers that she would pay an amount of Rs 20,000 for conducting the gender determination test. The team of doctors followed the decoy woman and nabbed both the Asha workers and brought them to police station where a case was registered, the department said.
