PTI Mar 30, 2018

The Haryana Chief Secretary for Health has mentioned that a state wide vaccination drive will be held on April 25th aiming to immunize close to 85 lakh children against Measles and Rubella.

Around 85 lakh children in Haryana will be administered vaccine under the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign to be launched on April 25, Haryana Additional Chief Secretary of Health Amit Jha said on 29 March. He said the target is to cover 100 per cent children in the age group of 9 months to less than 15 years. Jha was reviewing the preparedness on the campaign with the district administrations and line departments through video-conferencing.

He said that children in both government and private schools and high risk areas such construction sites, brick kilns and poultry farms would be immunised under this campaign. Speaking on this occasion, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Amneet P Kumar said that the campaign had already been carried out in 13 states covering around more than 10 crore children, achieving almost 100 per cent target. It is being taken up by campaign mode to achieve the maximum herd immunity in children despite of earlier given Measles vaccine, she said. It would be followed by provision of MR vaccine in routine immunisation, replacing the currently given measles vaccine, at 9-12 months (Dose-1) and 16-24 months (Dose-2) of age.
