Former professor of ESI hospital convicted in a bribery case

The Principal Special Judge hearing CBI cases has sentenced Dr B V Navaneeth, a former Professor and Head of the department of Microbiology of the Employees State Insurance Corporation, to 4 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs.10 lakhs in a bribery case.

 


According to a CBI press release here on May 10 the case was registered against Dr Navaneeth for demanding illegal gratification of Rs.25,000 from a Post Graduate student of Microbilogy department of ESIC, Bengaluru for showing undue favour during the conduct of examination. A trap was laid and the accused was caught while accepting the bribe. After completion of investigation a chargesheet was filed on June 14, 2016, the release said.
