First public sector eye bank in south launched in Telangana

An eye bank, said to be the first in the government sector in the southern states, was inaugurated on June 13 at the state-run Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Hyderabad.
The Telangana Health Minister C Laxman Reddy opened the eye bank. He launched an ambulance for eye collection and also inaugurated an air-conditioned post-operative ward and dedicated equipment worth Rs one crore at the hospital, a state government release said. It quoted Reddy as saying that it was a matter of pride that the first eye bank in government medical sector in south India had been established at the Sarojini hospital.
