First Medical Skill centre in HP started at Tanda

The first medical skill center in Himachal Pradesh was made operational on June 11 in Dr. Rajinder Prasad govt. Medical College (RPGMC ) at Tanda which is to function under the Pilot Project of National Emergency Life Support (NELS) supported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India.
The Principal of RPGMC, Dr. Bhanu Awasthi mentioned that the knowledge and awareness of comprehensive lifesaving skills is the key to prevent immediate untoward outcomes of life threatening diseases. He said that the Medical skill centre has been mandated to train all doctors and paramedics handling emergencies. The focus of the training program is on comprehensive lifesaving skills, medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetric and gynecological emergencies, trauma life support and disaster management, he added.
He said that with training workshops like this in this centre, the doctors will learn about the benefits of golden hour in injury management. “Such type of training will decrease the morality, morbidity and disability in seriously ill patients and help improve patient care in our institution” the Principal said.
He said that the first three day programme in this medical skill centre is aimed at imparting training to 56 medical professionals who are currently posted in frontline of emergency department. While elaborating on the facilities available at the skill centre, Dr. Gurdarshan Gupta, the medical superintendent at RPGMC stated that the Centre is equipped with mannequins, simulators and airway trainers to mimic the real scenarios of emergency situations.
