First kidney transplant unit to commission at IGMC soon

First Kidney transplant operation is scheduled to be held soon as the Organ transplant unit is being commissioned at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla after returning of trained doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi.
Talking to UNI, Senior Medical Superintendent of IGMC Hospital Dr Jank Raj informed that first kidney transplant was scheduled to be held on April 8 was defered as the team led by Dr Bansal from AIIMS directed the hospital to register four to five cases for the transplantation before scheduling the next date for first Kidney transplantation at IGMC.
We have registration of one patients for the transplantation at IGMC and we appeal the patients who are waiting to get kidney transplantation here came and registered in the hospital as the AIIMS team along with IGMC trained doctors decided to reschedule the first transplantation soon.
Earlier the IGMC informed the media that they have sought permission from the AIIMS doctors to conduct first transplantation by April 8 however on the direction of AIIMS, the decision was taken to conduct the transplantation of four to five patients on the next date which would be finalised after registration of new patients.
During the recent Budget Session Health Minister Vipin Singh Parmar had informed the assembly that first 15 operations for kidney transplant would be accomplished under the direct supervision of specialists from AIIMS, Delhi. The state government made budget provisions of Rs four crore for this facility in 2018-10 budget, out of which Rs 2.91 crore have been spent on machines to establish modular operation theatre.
Doctors, nurses and paramedics have been sent to train them in PGI, Chandigarh and AIIMS, Delhi as before setting up first organ transplant unit at IGMC it is essential to involve Nephrology, Urology, Pathology and Anesthesia experts.
