PTI Aug 01, 2018

Arunachal Pradesh's first medical college will start its maiden academic session from August 1, and Chief Minister Pema Khandu on July 31 assured full support of the state government for its functioning and development.

An induction ceremony for the first batch of MBBS students of the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) would be held tomorrow at the institute. Chairing the third meeting of the Governing Council of the TRIHMS Society here, Khandu said providing quality, affordable and timely health care facilities to people is of top most priority for the state government, and the upcoming medical college and hospital is a significant initiative towards fulfilling this commitment.

Reviewing the requirements of TRIHMS at a meeting, Khandu said there would be no shortfalls for genuine demands, provided the funds granted are utilised judiciously and all processes are strictly according to the laid-down norms. Khandu also sought clear-cut norms and guidelines for revision of salary, perks and appointment orders of faculties, besides giving go-ahead to increasing the intake of MBBS students from 50 to 100 and hiking the number of beds in the teaching hospital from 300 to 500, an official release said.
