Raheja Hospital, Mumbai recently performed a challenging facial reconstruction surgery on a 26-year olf man, who had sustained severe maxillofacial trauma as a result of a bike accident.
A 26-year-old man, who had met with a motorbike accident, leaving parts of his face completely shattered, underwent a Facial Reconstruction Surgery at SL Raheja Hospital here, giving him high hopes of a normal life, again. According to Dr Samrat Tawde, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at SL Raheja Hospital, who conducted the surgery, the patient had sustained severe Maxillofacial Trauma, leading to his mid-face being completely shattered. To sustain the airway, a Tracheostomy was performed on him, which means making an incision in front of the neck to directly open an airway. The patient was anesthetised and a tube was put through his nose.
Dr Tawde said the case was very complex, since they were not certain of the gravity of injuries and how many pieces the bones had broken into. Luckily for the patient, he had not sustained any brain damage or internal injuries. Without timely intervention, the patient would have died of extreme bleeding and suffocation, said a statement issued by Fortis, here. SL Raheja Hospital is an associate of Fortis. Dr Tawde said the patient would be able to resume his daily routine after around 45 days.
