Noted eye surgeon Dr Daljit Singh who introduced the lens implants in the country and invented plasma scalpel for glaucoma and cataract surgery, passed away here on Wednesday morning.

Family sources said that the 82-year-old Padma Shri awardee ophthalmologist was suffering from a chronic disease and was bedridden for a month.Dr Singh had also contested the Lok Sabha election from Amritsar on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket against Capt Amarinder Singh of Congress and Arun Jaitley of BJP.Later, he left the AAP and joined the Congress.Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder mourned the demise of Dr Daljit Singh.
