Expose fake food brands via awareness campaign: UP CM

Uttar Pradesh chief minister said fake food brands should be exposed through an awareness campaign and strict action should be taken against people who sell expired food products.
Emphasizing on the unhealthy packaged drinking water, cold drinks, milk and other packed food stuff, CM said, "If we can purify the water, we can get rid of half of the health issues". He instructed the officials to take strict actions against those who are selling old or expired stuff. Also, officials should be responsible to check the quality of such product time to time. He also instructed the officials to make people aware about 'me too' and 'fake' food products and take stern actions against the culprits.
Chief Minister gave these directions during a review meeting of Food Safety and Drug Administration here on 2nd July. Talking about the delay in issuing license to the whole sellers and retailers of drugs, CM instructed the officials to take the process online and issue the licence to the eligible one within a week. No leniency in the process will be tolerated, he said. Talking about the lesser availability of laboratories for testing the food or beverage sample, CM instructed the officials to open 12 new laboratories in commisionarates in next 6 months.
CM instructed the officials to speed up the work of filling the vacant posts in the department through public service commission. He also instructed the officials to coordinate with the local administration and other departments to identify the fake goods producers and take stern actions against them.
During the meeting he directed the officials to depute a full time Deputy Commissioner in Food Safety and Drug Administration and appointment of a full time Drug Controller. The Chief Minister instructed to develop 'Clean Street Food Hub' in Varanasi and Lucknow. Before adding vitamins and other useful substances (flourished) in the flour, milk and salt etc, make sure to do area specific research and supply it as per the requirements. Do not mix excess vitamins in foods to benefit companies.
In the meeting, Regional Minister Rajendra Pratap Singh (Moti Singh), Chief Secretary, Dr. Anup Chandra Pandey, Additional Chief Secretary, Food Safety and Drug Administration Anita Bhatnagar Jain and other departmental officers were present.
