Ensure logistics in hospitals to tackle vector-borne diseases: Delhi Lt Governor

The Delhi Lt Governor on May 21 directed the Health Department officials to ensure that all logistics, including mosquito nets, medicines and diagnostic kits, were made available in hospitals here to tackle vector-borne diseases.
Lt. Governor Baijal was chairing a review meeting at the Raj Nivas here to discuss steps taken to combat dengue, chikungunya and malaria and seasonal influenza (H1N1) in Delhi. Health Minister Satyendra Jain was present at the meeting. The LG directed that crisp targeted messages, particularly in vernacular languages, must be disseminated to spread public awareness on these diseases. He also emphasized on the involvement of schoolchildren in public awareness programme.
Prevention and control of mosquito breeding is the key to effective check on vector-borne diseases. Baijal re-emphasised the importance of IEC (information, education and communication) activities as the main tool for combating vector-borne diseases, particularly dengue and chikungunya.
