News18 Jan 14, 2019
The Emergency Department of Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi was affected on January 12, after doctors refused to show up at work as a protest against a recent attack on one of the doctors.
The doctor was manhandled by the Safdarjung Enclave police station's head constable's 24-year old son who had gone to the hospital to seek treatment. Later an argument broke out between the patient and the duty doctor, about him not being given priority treatment. The patient later punched the doctor causing him to injure his nose and fled from the scene.
Meanwhile, a member of the Resident Doctor's Association (RDA) has clarified that the duty doctor tried to relieve the abdominal pain of the patient but it did not subside. He later ordered for an ultrasound, but by then the patient was already hurling abuses at him. The doctor who fell unconscious and broke his nose is currently under observation. An FIR has been lodged.
