Doctors and paramedical staff on 2nd April staged a sit-in protest outside the Sub District Hospital (SDH) Shopian, alleging that security forces on 1st April night fired several rounds in the hospital, triggering panic among patients and other people present there.
Scores of doctors and paramedical staff hit the streets and held a sit-in protest outside SDH Shopian. The protesting doctors and paramedics demanded action against security forces responsible for firing inside the hospital. “Forces fired several shots in the casualty block and the blood bank without any provocation. The incident should be investigated and guilty should be punished,” the protestors said.
Sources said security forces fired in the hospital following a heated argument with a doctor. Meanwhile, a team of doctors from the hospital met Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, and presented a memorandum, demanding an inquiry into the incident. Scores of injured civilians were rushed to the hospital after clashes in Shopian on 1st April, when four civilians died in security force action and 13 militants and three Army jawans were killed in three separate encounters in south Kashmir. Ambulance drivers also alleged harassment while ferrying patients.
